THE BATTLESTAR COLUMBIA-B Battlestar Columbia-B started on May 23, 2000. Its first goal was to provide a science fiction club within the structure of SIMON FRASER SOCIETY FOR COMMUNITY LIVING, which is an organization dedicated to assisting the mentally handicapped in merging with and living with the general populous. The Idea was first conceived by Debra McNaughton (Bailey) as an entertainment medium for the society, and was readily accepted by the membership, and the management of the society. In a short time it became apparent that in small ways this club could provide not only entertainment, but also assist in the integration of members into main-stream living. The enthusiasm of everyone, inside and outside the community, has been phenomenal. We have now approached Costumers, Drama Coaches, Makeup artists, Photographers, Set Builders, and engineering people to provide most of what Columbia-B needs to exist. The next step will be to obtain finances with which to purchase the first costumes, and other paraphernalia for duplication. In the Spring of 2001 we have many activities planned toward this goal such as a car wash, a garage sale, and a bake goods sale. Small beginnings, but necessary in that both the members and future donors can see the excitement that exists amongst the membership. There are many reasons why the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA theme works for us. In taking this venue we must also pay homage to the original Stars and Staff that gave it its birth. For this reason, we have elected to support Richard Hatch and the resurrection movement. We are in the perfect position to do so here in what is affectionately known as HOLLYWOOD NORTH, and will do so with media coverage, Web Site and any other way that presents itself. |
